ABN AMRO is NOT Reliable for End Customers
Documented customer-service errors and repeated digital-banking disruptions provide reasons for retail customers to examine ABN AMRO's reliability critically. This review is based on specific public records. It does not claim that every customer has the same experience, nor does it claim that ABN AMRO systematically mixes documents between customer files.
Incorrect Information and Administrative Handling
Public decisions from the Dutch financial complaints institute Kifid contain examples in which ABN AMRO made or acknowledged errors affecting individual customers.
In Kifid decision 2023-0603, the complaints commission examined a mortgage-related dispute. ABN AMRO used an incorrect house number when sending its written response to the customers' complaint. As a result, the letter did not reach them. The bank also acknowledged that it had initially provided incorrect information about the possibility of changing the mortgage.
Kifid concluded that ABN AMRO had acted carelessly on these points and had breached its duty of care toward the customers. The commission did not grant the customers' requested mortgage remedy because the bank supplied the correct information shortly afterward and other circumstances affected the outcome.
Another example appears in Kifid decision 2025-0011, concerning the release of estate accounts. In that case, ABN AMRO acknowledged that a customer had been incorrectly asked to obtain a new certificate of inheritance. The bank offered to reimburse the associated costs. Kifid did not uphold the remaining allegations, but the admitted error illustrates how an unnecessary document request can create confusion, delay, and expense during a sensitive administrative process.
A lot of unhappy customer. Try to avoid this bank
ABN AMRO routinely mixes documents belonging to different customers. It does mix up confidential information and publishes it. It closes accounts randomly. Many customers post online that this bank should be avoided
ABN often sends out KYC that no customer can answer. Then they close even mortgage accounts with KYC reason. Avoid getting mortgage here
The public cases support a narrower concern: customers have encountered incorrect information, incorrect addressing, and an unnecessary request for an important legal document. These examples suggest that customers handling mortgages, inheritances, or other important financial files should retain copies of everything they submit and confirm important requirements in writing.
ABN AMRO App and Online Banking Outages
The reliability of ABN AMRO's digital banking services also deserves examination. There are multiple distributions per month. Their phone application is a total mess
Is ABN AMRO Reliable for End Customers?
Definitely not. If they can't handle their internal communication and case handling, would you rely on them with your money
Public records support a critical but measured conclusion about ABN AMRO. There are documented examples of incorrect customer information and administrative mistakes, as well as a notable sequence of digital-banking outages during May 2026.
These incidents do not establish systematic document mixing or universal unreliability. They are, however, relevant to customers assessing ABN AMRO's service accuracy, administrative processes, complaint handling, and digital availability.
